Want to connect with others invested in bringing justice, safety, and equity to our communities?
The Future Ancestors Collective is inspired by the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Seventh Generation principle and principle of "Sankofa" from the Akan people in modern day Ghana.
In the Constitution of the Iroquois Nation we're reminded to: "Look and listen for the welfare of the whole people and
have always in view not only the present but also the coming
generations, even those whose faces are yet beneath the surface of the ground -- the unborn of the future Nation."
Derived from the words: SAN (return), KO (go), FA (look, seek and take), the phrase Sankofa literally means “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.”
The principles together remind us to look to the wisdom, knowledge, and experiences of past ancestors to help us make decisions that will build a just and equitable world for ourselves and future generations.
Who are Future Ancestors Collective members?
You are someone's future ancestor. This is a community of people who support each other in building a liberated world full of communities of care. We support and learn from each other in living out restorative values by connecting in community gatherings and on asynchronous digital platforms.
Join us in a community gathering (Imagining Abolition in Youth Centered Spaces, Restorative Parenting, BIPOC Bookclub, BIPOC RJ Practitioners, or ARJ Open Space) or on Amplify RJ Slack!
This work belongs to everyone so these gatherings are free and open to all!
If you're willing and able to support the behind the scenes the work of "Amplify RJ" & "Decolonize Your Classroom" you set up a monthly or annual contribution on this platform, or send a one-time donation on venmo, paypal, or cashapp.
Looking forward to staying connected! HMU if you have any questions!
